General presentation
The Puppis constellation is a large southern hemisphere constellation. Like the Carina and the Sails, it comes from the ancient constellation of the Ship Argo, which took the shape of a boat. La Poupe is rich in stars and open clusters, making it a particularly interesting region to observe with binoculars or a telescope.
Shape of the Puppis constellation
The Puppis constellation takes the form of the stern of a large ship. Its stars form an extensive and irregular silhouette that naturally extends Carene and Sails. Its shape is not immediately recognizable to the naked eye, but it appears as a vast set of stars drawing the rear part of the hull of a ship.
