General presentation
Serpens is the only one of the 88 modern constellations to be divided into two parts: the Head of the Serpent and the Tail of the Serpent, separated by the constellation of Ophiuchus. Visible mainly in summer, it is rich in star clusters and nebulae.
Shape of the Serpens constellation
The constellation of the Serpent has the shape of a long snake whose head and tail are separated by Ophiuchus. Each part is composed of an alignment of stars forming a sinuous body, giving the impression that the snake wraps around Ophiuchus.
